Visa card identity theft should I file police report?
Someone obtained my VISA card info online and my address and made two dollar online purchases of flowers. I called the flower company and actually got the name and address that the flowers were delivered to (in another city)as well as the email address the imposter used. They gave my name and address to the flower company as well as my card info.when ordering.
I called the bank and shut down my Visa debit card while they investigate for a refund.
This incident happened a few days after I signed up for an online stock trading company and gave them my account info (but not my credit card) for transaction verification. I am suspicious that someone hacked my information from them or some other recent online merchant.
How can I find out what company my info was stolen from to avoid dealing with them in the future.
Also, someone mentioned about filing a police report.
What good would this do? I feel uneasy that the criminal has my home address as well as my card number.(now canceled). Not sure I want the police forging any further link between myself and this thief.
What do you think?
Thanks.

you’d be crazy not to let the police know.

How does contacting the police "forge" a link between you and the person who committed the fraud? The answer is that it doesn’t. Report it to the police so that in case there are additional problems in the future you have a record that you reported it.

Umm. I only 15 but i have some suggestions. Im not a fan of cops ahaha. But i do think the problem might be solved at cancelling your card. Maybe file a police report but im not sure if they would arrest the perp or not and you made a good point about him having your number. I think its all up to you. But what i would suggest is going to the website find the company name on the info or contact tab. and report that.

On line theft is a booming business all across the world . And why do you think that the police
would be sharing your information for ?
Anyone who hates or dislike the police are most likely the ones doing time for the crimes that they committed in life .
But would not hesitate to call the police when they are in deep- shit and over their heads when someone is trying to kill them . Tell me why is that ?
And why do they always run from the police after committing a crime or beating someone are they just a bunch of candy-@ssess or what ?
If you can’t do the time then don’t do the crime .
