Tell them you will be unable to take credit / debit card payments because your machine has just gone out of service. 

Assure them that this does not normally happen and you have called out for an engineer to fix the device.

And then ask them if they would prefer to pay by cash or cheque.

PS - It actually helps if you have called out an engineer.</description>

		<description>Make sure they are aware as soon as they enter your business. There is nothing worse than having someone shop/eat at a business only to find out the CC machine is broken; bad business all around. Get you CC machine fixed ASAP or you could lose quite a bit of business.</description>
