I’m starting up a small business; I will be making sales over the phone of a single product. And, I need a very basic point of sale system. Essentially I need the program to do a few things:

Process credit cards, take down customer information (i.e. name, billing/shipping address), account for taxes, and print invoices (maybe also print labels).

Obviously, if there is a free program that does this, it would be great, but otherwise I’m willing to consider any suggestions.

Thanks to everyone ahead of time!

We have a small business and I was wondering is it illegal to charge the client the 3% that the credit card machine charges us? Please tell me where I can find the answer so I can show it to my accounting department.

If you worked for a company that sold credit card processing, how would you sell that?

I feel like an idiot walking into a small business and being like…" Hey how much are you paying to process visa and mastercards per transaction? - Want to see if I can beat the rate you are paying now?"

To me that sounds like people will just be like….nah I’m good.

Should I call first? Should I hit up flea markets and walk around and ask all the merchants.

Should I call businesses that are mobile and most likely dont even take credit cards and offer them a solution?

What do you think?

I am a fairly small business in the beginnings stage and I sell handbags. I’m losing money to customer due to not having a credit card machine (wireless).

Are there any legitamite companies out there with simple merchant account plans?

I called Samsclub.com and the total fees not including the 1.64% per transaction including .19 cents came out to be totaled .54 a month (29.94 a month for a 48 month lease. + wireless fee, .95 monthly statement) w/no cancellations

I am clearly not there yet. Any suggestions?

My company is being sued for a large amount of money. Even though I am working with attorneys I’m having a hard time understanding how this whole judgement thing works. It appears my company ONLY will be sued according to threats from the collector and a copy of the suit. Also, I signed no personal guarantee. Even if they do sue me, I’ve been told by at least one attorney that I could fight that on grounds of being wrong or incorrect. At any rate, I want to know what the REAL process of collection is like in the worst case. Say they get a judgement against my company. Small business. I have no "assets" other than a corporate checking and a merchant account. I have some other savings that have been in my name personally for a long time and unfortunately haven’t been added to in years. Bottom line, what and how can these guys go after my only money to my name? Can they take my house? Can they somehow "freeze" my checking accounts? Wages aren’t an issue since I’m self-employed. Thanks .
Forgot to add there is rarely much money in the checking and merchant accounts as I wind up spending MOST of everything I make in business expenses and my basic living expenses (mortgage, etc.) I KNOW I don’t do perfect accounting but my biz is fairly new and I seriously doubt any small biz corporation could do it any other way in order to make a living.

I need to find a paypal alternative because paypal is making me angry. I hate them! I was hoping someone could give me some good information of a alternative to paypal that would allow me to invoice people via email and allow customers to make payments online via credit/debitcards or their paypal, google accounts without me having to have those memberships to receive the payments? I am a small business so I don’t want a merchant account because it costs hundreds of dollars to maintain a merchant account and I don’t make that much to need something like that. I like invoicing via email and receiving payments into an account I can transfer to my bank but paypal has too many issues and causes to many headaches and takes too much money. Anyone know of a great alternative?

Hello,
I have a small business as an online merchant. A customer from Canada placed an order for a particular product. Several months later I received a bill from Fedex for brokerage, customs fees etc for about 0. The customer refused to pay the fees therefore I am being charged for them. After doing some reading on their website, I see this in their terms an agreements. I have called Fedex a couple times to see if they could eliminate the fees or reduce them with no such luck. I’ve said I would cancel my Fedex account and that didn’t seem to make a difference. I have tried to find a list of fees/percentage on the website and can’t find anything. You would think they would have to list them on their website. Any feedback would be great.

Thanks,
Brian

I made my site using Yahoo site builder. Yesterday i signed to Yahoo small business and made all the payments using my credit card. After one hour they sent me the confirmation mail regarding that i can upload my pages to my site and redy to publish.

In Yahoo stie builder, I clicked Publish- I put yahoo small business account. after i signed in— it says in need to sign in either yahoo marchent account or yahoo small business account.

I am confused what i should do.

When i made payment, i used my yahoo free mail that i’ve been using over years. Now that same id i am using for merchant account also still its not working

I just started a small business and have a merchant account. I am looking into spending 0 or much less for a wireless credit card machine. Any models that would particularly fit my budget? I will just be going to tradeshows and flea markets. I need some very easy and reliable but within a small budget.

I have a small business with very minimal credit card usage. I bought a handheld swiper from Propay online thinking it would be just fine for my usage…and am being told by a guy who sells much more expensive machines that mine will be not usable in about 6 months because of some new laws and that Visa is cracking down on the swipe and transfer data via internet or cell phone type credit card processing that I bought. Any idea if this guy is just trying to sell me with the fear tactic- that mine will be obsolete…or if it's a legitimate point he is making.
