Possible credit card scam or scam in general?
I have a screenprinting shop and have a client who wants a large quantity of shirts. The client has a very broken phone line so communication is tough. He agreed to the price right away and wanted to pay in full right away. I didnt have a merchant account so im setting one up which is taking longer than I thought. He wants 2000 shirts by wednesday. He sent two credit card numbers and info for billing. He didnt want to see a proof of the shirts, didnt negotioate the price, says hes in Tangier, has an address in Id, and ordered the shirts in Houston Tx, says hell have someone pick them up. I guess it would be no problem if i had been able to process the card right away. The fact that he prepaid seems legit but what kind of scams can he be running. He emailed me to go ahead and print without sending him a proof of the shirt so if he tries to say that its not what he wanted then I have that. The other thing is he’s in a rush right before a holliday, seems fishy but its good $

It sounds like a scam to me and here is why:
1) He is pushy and is ordering large quantaties of items on two different credit cards.
2) He is in Tangier but is ordering from TX.
3) Doesn’t want proof of what the shirts look like.
4) Someone else will pick up.
5) Did not negotiate the price
The types of scams he could be running are ID theft, using stolen credit cards, getting the shirts and disputing the charges on the credit card saying he didn’t receive.
The big sign is that he says he is in Tangier, has an address in ID, and orders from TX. Are there not any shirt making companies in Tangier or ID?
I would guess that the cards are stolen and you will receive credit card chargebacks from the banks for the transactions.
As a side note to the person saying ask for a cashiers check from a reputable bank: Those checks can be counterfeit as well. There really is no sure fire payment method any more.

It’s a typical con job and the credit card # is stolen.

If you have concerns that this is a scam then it probably is (trust your instincts). Is there a way for you to confirm whether the credit card numbers are valid before delivery? If not, I’d ask for a change of payment and demand a cashier’s check from a reputable bank. Period. If he balks, then you know he’s scamming you.
If he does, in fact, come through with the bank cashier’s check, then I’d have him sign a document stating that, since he declined proofing the shirts before delivery, he has waived his right to return any of the shirts or demand a refund whether full or partial.
