I run a small massage school and am always being told I need a credit card machine. The fees bother me.

It is more than I can afford to pay with rent and all the other expenses.

I believe that if you are running a "school" you need to have the credit card machine for students to pay tuition. It is just a common sense item to me. If you can’t afford it then maybe you should raise tuition just enough to cover the fees. It would be justified.

Be very wary about this I have seen so many lease agreements that are for terminals and contracts that last for years and your charged every month for 60 months…..thats ridiculous so before you sign anything make sure your not locked into any contract agreement….Also dont be fooled by their one rate usually someone will tell you hey i can get you 1.5% on your transactions what they don’t tell you is that it is impossible to offer just one rate because their are a at least a few hundred different credit cards you can take…REWARDS CARDS, AMEX, BUSINESS CARDS ECT….. so you’ll see the 1.5% for less then 10% of all the credit cards you take…..DONT BE FOOLED BY ONE RATE!….you can check these rates online in an interchange pass through rate sheet…..if you have any other questions feel free to email me i can also refer to you a company who will explain all the rates in detail and offer you fair pricing…. GOOD LUCK!

1). Research credit card companies with the lowest fees for your needs. Fees depend on volume and expected volume. American Express charges higher fees than Mastercard or Visa
2). Raise your rates. I know that’s hard in this economy, but even a 3% raise will more than cover the cost of your credit card company.
It’s a good idea because more people will be able to attend the school and your membership will increase.

Raise your rates by 5%, and offer your customers a discount of 5% if they pay cash or pay in advance. It will seem like a bargain to them, and if they choose the credit card instead, you will be covered by the increased rates.

With the high cost of massage school you have to take cards so people can pay for it. You can look into adding fees like service charges or application fees or whatever.
You can’t afford not to take them.
