i use my property owners credit card machine and at first she said i could use it and apply all amts. to the lease and now she wants to charge me fees to use the machine. if it is not written in the lease am i liable. she changes her mind as the wind blows
she has a motel and i have leased her other motel until i can get the equipment she told my i could use her machine and apply all cc run to my lease to keep her from having to pay me then i pay her with my check.but the fees she is trying to make me pay was not in the lease just a verbal agreement by her all of the sudden. now i have another expense and she told me in the begining i didnt have to worry about it.

get something in writing or get your own credit card terminal

Im a store manager and I have delt with the credit card machine - transactions, updating, programming,etc. My store uses bank of america and we receive updates,paper and ink for free. I dont know if we get charged to use it because we do not charge customers but you should get more info. Maybe if you contact the bank you dont even have to charge and you can avoid your landlord’s personal fees.

for each charge, a merchant has to pay anywhere from 10-35 cents PLUS a certain percentage of the total charge, so of course she’s going to have to charge you for using her machine, because why should she pay your fees that you are incurring on her machine
it’s like running up someone’s phone bill and then saying you don’t wonna pay them.

any merchant has to pay a fee for using a machine no matter what merchant you are. Am Ex is the highest which is why most do not honor them. Visa, MC and Discover is more reasonable and not only is it a credit card violation but its a federal offense if you tack on a surcharge for your customers if they pay by credit card. Hopefully you don’t have a long lease but you do not have a case here except your seller on the machine has a brain malfunction

You don’t need a credit card machine..You can do it on your computer and just type info in.
Its nice and you don’t have to have the extra equipment and then if you have a wireless laptop you can travel and charge as you move about for your customers.

Your property owner is scamming you!
Almost all credit card companies **require** those who provide credit cards as a payment option to **not** charge extra fees for the privelege.
She does have to pay a fee to the bank for all amounts charged. This is typically between 2 to 4% of the amount charged. But her contract with the bank almost certainly says she can’t transfer this cost to you.
On a side note, however, why are you charging your lease? If your lease is so high that you can’t use your paycheck to cover it, you should seriously consider moving to more affordable digs. Otherwise, you’ll just dig yourself into such a deep hole, you’ll have difficulty getting out of it.
