How does one use a credit card in an ATM machine?
I sometimes see questions about how to get a cash advance on a credit card and people recommend using an ATM machine. I have never done it and have no need to. It just got me interested. Since there is no PIN number associated with a credit card (not a credit/debit card) how could it be used in an ATM machine?
Please only answer if you have done it. I can make guesses such as calling up to bank or going down to a branch.

I only use a debit card for travel and I had never heard of credit card companies issuing pins. I guarantee they have never issued one to me. They sure don’t advertise it.
I meant to say for ATM use while traveling. I use a credit card for purchases and a debit card to obtain cash.

Most cards they send you a pin number but since you never use it you probably don’t even remember getting it. Other cards you have to call and request one.

You need to contact your credit card company and they can issue a PIN number to use in the ATMs. Beware though! Sometimes cash advances have a higher interest rate on them than regular credit card purchases!
It takes about 7-10 days to get a PIN if you credit card company allows that.

Here’s how you do it:
1. You put your card in the machine.
2. The machine asks for a PIN number (if you don’t have one, call the 1-800 number on the back of the card and they can set one up for you).
3. The ATM will now give you the choices like "Withdrawal" or "Deposit" or "Transfer" etc. Select withdrawal
4. You should now have three choices — Checking, Savings, or Credit Card. Select credit card.
5. From here, use it like you would an ATM card.
WARNING!!! Most ATMs charge a fee for cash withdrawals using a credit card, and your credit card company also charges for cash advance. In addition, if you don’t pay the bill in full when it comes you’ll pay the maximum interest rate for cash advances, which is usually around 20%.
