Credit Card Machines
How is that your bank account is able to be charged when your card is swiped in that machine. I don’t see a physical connection between the store and a bank when you pay.

You don’t see it but it is there. It’s normally just through a phone jack. You can even hear the modem dialing out sometimes.

An ACH is the intermediary.

It is all done through the magnetic strip on the back of your debit/credit card which contains all of your bank information. It is all electronic and not physical. The information connects to a database and the merchant is able to request that the amount be deducted from your account. If your account does not have enough money, the transaction will be declined.
