Small Business Merchant Accounts
I have a website, but I want to sell more products than what my website already has availabel. (Note: I host my website off of another website who takes care of shipping and handling). I don’t have a merchant account or a business paypal account (but I do have a paypal account), and I don’t know how to add a ‘Add To Cart" button. What is the best way to recieve payment from a customer? If I have to recieve checks what should I do in order to not get screwed?

I would post the Add to Cart question under technology but "how do I add an Add to Cart button" in the subject. You will get a fast response.
Paypal and credit cards are the best way to receive payment as you dont have to wait for your money or spend time processing like you do with checks. I am guessing paypal will help with credit card payments too but contact VISA and MASTERCARD directly to see what you have to do to get a license. http://WWW.VISA.COM.
If you take a check, you can call the bank and get a hold placed on the amount of money from the account. I guess it depends on the size of the check whether it is worth that hassle. I suspect they charge fees too. You could hold the merchandise until the check clears. Some places just say they will ship one week after receipt of a check to give it time to clear and to keep the process standard.
