How do I correct my credit score after it has been falsely ruined?
I graduated from my second college in December of 2008. While in school, my loans were in deferment from my first school. The company who bought the loan was ACS. I found out recently that "Sunburst Bank" had been reporting my student loans as late from June ‘08 through December ‘08 (while they were in deferment). I called the phone number on my credit report for "Sunburst Bank," and the phone number was for ACS - the company that bought my student loans. As if that wasn’t confusing enough, the lady who said she would send my inquiry on to the "credit reporting department" also said that there was no one to talk with in that department…..leading me to ask then how is this inquiry going to be processed. In the meantime, my credit score has tanked over 100 points, my credit card companies are raising my APRs, my car insurance is rising……and all for something I didn’t do and that isn’t my fault.
How do I get this corrected? I first reported the mistake on August 27, but today when I called the claim is still "pending" and they had no more information than that. They said that it takes 5-7 days for a claim inquiry to be processed through their credit reporting department and that I would be notified when it has been resolved…..but if there is no one to talk with in that department, how is anyone going to notify me???? If there is anyone out there who has an idea what steps I should take, please I’m desperate.

You could try to dispute the information on your credit report. You would have to dispute each item separately if you have more than one, and you have to dispute it to each credit bureau. I did this for my husband online. It took me about a half hour to do each one, but when you do this it will ask you why you are disputing it and the credit bureaus will do an investigation on what and why you are disputing something. They have 30 days to complete their investigation and give you the results. If they are not changing/removing the item then they have to explain to you why, if they decide that you were correct they will make the changes needed. If this is not done within 30 days they have to remove it regardless. This way all the work is done for you, and you don’t have to talk to anyone who can ignore you. Make sure you do this will Trans-union, Equifax, and Experian.
