how can i plug a credit card machine into my cell phone?

I’m looking to avoid the ridiculous cost of a land line for my business. I already have a cell phone for business use. Is there a way to connect a basic credit card terminal into a cell phone?
If not, what would be the most cost effective way to accept cards? This is a small restaurant and service needs to be speedy!

Do you have internet available. Most credit card machines can hook up to the internet directly without a phone line.

If you have an iphone, there maybe an application for the iphone.
