What you should be looking for are the lowest rates possible particularly on check cards and rewards cards as they are the most common cards you will encounter. Some merchant account providers break their rates up by card type allowing you to potentially get a better deal if you do accept a lot of certain card types. This doesn't guarantee you will save money but if you have either very low ticket or high ticket items it could very well make a difference for you.

As far as providers go, look on eBay. Yes, eBay. The competition for business is VERY high there resulting in really good deals. Just make sure you shop all of them and requests all of their fees in writing. Some them make up for their low fees with hidden fees. You want to be sure to avoid those providers.
