Credit Card Machines
I’m starting a Home Business and I’m going to have customers come directly to my home to pick up their products(PC Repair). I’m wondering how I can have them pay with credit/debit card. I see those swipe and type in pin machines in stores. How do I get and set up one of those?

Contact your bank. But be prepared they are not cheap. A friend got one, and it was like 2400 dollars for one. One of the biggest rip offs if you ask me.

You’ll need a merchant account to process the cards and a terminal of some kind. Probably a portable one from what you’ve said. They are expensive but they can be rented and sometimes are offered free. Companies that supply the machines usually offer training and some even help with the merchant account application. Don’t know what country you are in but this is a company in the UK

And one in the US you may find interesting.

Before commiting yourself please ask for advice from your bank’s small business centre. They will be able to point you towards companies of good standing. Don’t jump at free or cheap machines. It’s important that you pay a reasonable fee for the privelige of taking card payments. This is especially important if the terminal provider is offering to help you get a merchant account.
