There is an additional charge for payments taking over the phone. Since computers have really taken over the customer service world, you pay extra now for handling your transactions through a live person.. CRAZY but true! I agree with first answer. I've been charged a processing fee by a couple of credit card companies, my local hospital, and have noticed that my utility & auto insurance bills have also adopted the same policy. While it's illegal to tack on fees without disclosing them, I'm betting the fee policy was written in teeny tiny small print on the back of your statement where you probably didn't see it.
