Call for the manager, and then turn to the customer and say there was a problem processing the card but that the manager will know what to do. Then stall until the manager comes. The manager will then confiscate the card, but it will be two against one. Also, if the customer wants to complain, the manager will be more capable of handling the complaint. The manager will likely give the customer the option of using another card, and will likely stand there while it is processed.

Also, if there is any sort of inquiry afterwards, there will be two of you to respond to questions from the credit card company or the police.

You should call the 1-800 number on the card and ask them.

well you could just say there is a problem with your card do you have another one
or you could say it was declined,, but dont tell them you have to confiscate the card
you dont know what they might do
you should also check with your manger or find the store policy on this

Travelmaster's answer is dangerously inaccurate. If you are told to confiscate the card but fail to do so, it could be your job on the line when your boss finds out
