I have noticed lately stores charging a surcharge or flat fee if the customer uses a credit or debit card. this fee is added on to the total charge entered into the credit/debit card machine so it shows up as one single charge.

Maybe this has happened to you? You are at the register or in line to make a purchase, and the girl behind the counter (haven’t caught a man at it yet, but will soon I’m sure) is chatting away on her cell or even the company phone, slowing or halting you from making your purchase and getting on your way.

Does anyone have a diplomatic way to get the clerk off the phone, and process your purchase? I don’t really want to antagonize someone who is about to get my credit card number. As for a talking to a manager, I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen one, and I don’t always have time to help them fix their personnel problems anyway.

So, what do you say/do?

I ordered chinese food from a new place today and was asked for the last three numbers on the back of my card. Without thinking I gave it as part of the purchase process. Then it hit me. I’ve only been asked about the card number and expiration in the past. I’ve used the back three for internet purchases, but never over the phone. Is it common for a delivery restaurant to ask for the back three numbers or do I need to be worried? Is this a new thing restaurants are doing? I know I sound paranoid but I just have never run into this situation before… thanks!

It is more than I can afford to pay with rent and all the other expenses.

I have applied for a credit card over the phone. The lady said it takes about three weeks to process it. Does it really take that long? I thought it would be faster if you called it in.

I am a sales rep for a new, small company. We need to set up to accept credit cards and would like to know who has the best deal. Also I want to know if it is cheaper to accept debit v/s credit.
If you know a company to stay away from, please let me know!

Ok…I must admit. I was young and dumb. I received a credit card when I was 15 very easily over the phone by lying about my age. They even called me! Og course, knowing nothing about credit I did what a 15,16 year old would do - shop. Now at 22 me and my lying has hurt my credit score. It didn’t matter to me then but now I have graduate and trying to establish myself. Credit is essential in this process! I was going to dispute this stating that at the time of the contractual agreement I was a minor and it was the cc company’s responsibility to verify that my SSN and birth date matched. I read this in a credit forum. Is this true and does it work? Have anyone ever done this?

I will never do this sh*t again. I feel depressed and embarrased about my score when I try to obtain credit or a loan now. I need some serious advice. Thanks.
The account is/was charged off.
Ok, I have never touched the card when I was 18. I shopped (big) once and never paid anything. If the account was charged off after my 18th birthday will I be able to still dispute it as a minor?
To Mary B:
First thing first - I had no means of paying for the debt while in school. I have tried to reconcile this but they do not want to work with me. A 0 bill had turned into a 00 bill and I am not able to pay that. If I wanted to act like a 13 yr old I would just forget about it and let it get removed in 7 yrs (which is in one year). I am just researching my options before I committ to anything. That doesn’t sound 13 to me. Thanks for your response by the way.

I was balancing my checking account where I very frequently use my Visa check card (and have for a very long time). I noticed a "swipe" for an amount that I was not familiar with, but at a walk up deli that I do remember going to. Now, I am aware that when you buy something, that you can write in your tip, and when Visa gets the signed slip they add the tip AFTER THE FACT. But in this case, the slip I signed was for the purchase amount, but my activity statement showed that the "initial/purchase" swipe at that amount PLUS a 20% tip. As I tip with cash and lined out the tip portion in my slip, when it was finalized and posted it only posted for the initial/purchase amount. But, how can a merchant get a slip for 1 amount, and "swipe" for another at point of service? Also, since they did "add" the tip, if I had not lined out that portion, would the Visa processing center leave the higher amount the one to post even when getting the slip I signed if the tip portion is blank? How does THAT work?
Please let me be clear, I am not having a problem with my credit, nor do I need links on how to get or clean up my credit. This question is on how the MERCHANT can do/get away with what they are doing…. Thanks.
Again….please, I do not want solicitation for other websites that can "search" for my answer. I am using Yahoo Answers for this purpose. If those websites are so great for my question, you can go get the answer and let me know what it is. Thanks.

I just got off of the phone with someone from a credit card (collections) company. My ex husband was to paying off a credit card and hasn’t paid a dime since May of last year. I have taken him to court but they keep drawing the process out longer and longer and in the mean time my credit is being severly damaged. First he has 30 days, he doesn’t comply we go back to court and then he has 90 days…and so on. The person from the credit card company told me about something called a ‘Writ of Excusion’. I’m not sure if I heard her correctly because when I do a search it comes up with nothing. Is anyone familar with this? She said with this document I can have the judge sign it and be dismissed from any damage it’s caused to my credit.

Is there a way in our PayPal account to be able to see if someone has paid us with a Visa, or Mastercard, or PayPal account? We receive notices of payments, but we don’t know if the customer specifically paid with a credit card or PayPal. Just want to know if PayPal is prevalent….thanks!
Thanks to the answer I received, but I wanted to know how I could find out if it was through a credit card or a cheque as compared to just PayPal….the question is mostly ‘how’ can I tell, not ‘if’ I can tell. Where in our PayPal merchant account will I be able to find that information. Thank you, though!

Does it work like a normal credit card machine that’s plugged into the wall? Will it work with my merchant account?

Back-story: I am trying to "setup" Skype to work on my Laptop and PSPGo so that I can reduce the amount of money I spend on phone calls, but I need a credit card for the monthly plan. I don’t have any credit history, and I want to start using Skype ASAP. I didn’t realize that normal credit cards are almost impossible to get if you have no credit history, and setting up a loan will take to long (waiting to actually accumulate credit history w/ the loan, plus then waiting for the credit card application process). I have found that my only option is setting up a secured credit card. My only problem is that I am not sure if I can get a co-applicant. I am in college and asked all my family (including relatives) if they would be willing to co-sign private loans, and understandable with the economy, they all said no. As a result I now have to work extra to pay for my college than what I would have if they would co-sign.

As far as I am aware, a secure credit card is where you (the card holder) needs to have collateral in the form of a bank account (or something similar) where that collateral becomes your line of credit. I have both a checking and savings account, and easily meet the 0 min, 00max restrictions on the secure credit card.

Why would do I need a co-applicant, if I already have collateral for the card?

Also, if you read my back-story then let me know if this is basically the only way that I can get a credit card ASAP.

I ordered a phone with sprint, and i’m really frustrated now. Does this mean I wont get it? I just activated my credit card. I get treated like I defaulted on a shit load of payments but all I did was just not have credit cause i’m 18. I intend to pay the bill as soon as my check comes.
Which means I probably wont get a phone. That’s great. I’m getting reviewed for a required deposit on a phone. I mean give me a break, what do these people want from me? How am I supposed to get a phone if everyone either denies me a plan or requires a 300 dollar deposit.
It’s becoming really ridiculous. I need a plan, not a prepaid one. Tmobile denied me, but wants me to buy a phone full price with flex pay so I went with another place. Srpint is running that credit check for my order… even though they said my credit was approved for a plan.

Ugghhh sooooooo frustrating. I am sick of not having a cellphone.

I have a costumer that owe me 00, he wants to pay me with credit card. I dont have any credit card account machine. So I opened an account with paypal and I read that paypal charge 2.9%. How long does it takes to receive payment from a credit card?
I know that the 2.9% fee is good, but my question is how long does paypal takes to deposit the money to my account. Because usually credit cards payment takes more than debit cards.

I have a Optimum T4205, one of those credit card swiping machines that charge money on customer’s credit cards. And I accidentally inputted the wrong phone number on the receipt printout. How do I change it?

1.)My roommate went to a local store and opened a store credit card because the clerk kept asking her so she finally agreed. She is 17 and lied about her age saying she was 18. She gave all real information including her social security #, address and phone# but lied about her age saying she was 18.
2.)Claiming she had no ID on her the clerk said "I trust you and made up a false college ID number"
3.)The Clerk then called a bank to verify. After that the clerk gave her a temp card and said the real one will come in the mail in about a week. After she left she was reading over the paperwork and noticed that it seemed alot more a much bigger deal that she previously thought. She didn’t know this was considered fraud and is really scared that she will get in trouble. She has no history of any trouble (legal or otherwise). She tried to call the store and have it cancelled before it was processed but the clerk said she’d have to wait. She is planning on canceling it right away without using it. What can I tell her??
