I just installed Yahoo jukebox last week and found a song I want. I entered my credit card info, accepted the terms and clicked "buy" on the confirm screen. But then I get a message that says "There was a problem processing your purchases. Your credit card has not been charged. Please try again. error code: 1". I have e-mailed support and verified that the information in the Yahoo Wallet is correct. I have phoned my credit card company and verified that I entered the correct information and they also confirmed that an authorization for was approved at the time I tried to buy the song. So, the credit card is processing correctly but somehow the Yahoo computers aren’t completing the next step and releasing the song to my jukebox for download. What’s wrong? I need to get this song for a class tomorrow.
Actually, I’ve been e-mailing Yahoo support, then they told me to phone in, then they told me to post my question on Yahoo answers. *Wonderful* tech support, eh? ::rolls eyes::

When I took accounting, we learned that credit card companies don’t reimburse merchants for the entire purchase price. Instead, they short the merchant a small cut that they keep for processing the transaction. In my classes, we used 2% for all cards.

But that was many years ago and in academia. In the real world right now, what is the merchant discount for the various credit cards (Visa, Master Card, AMEX, Discover)?

Thanks!

We have a small business and I was wondering is it illegal to charge the client the 3% that the credit card machine charges us? Please tell me where I can find the answer so I can show it to my accounting department.

One answer I got was OK the going to the media center to look up grants but I thought grants applied to services for the govt and or research? someone said in one answer 1,500 was too high to start a errand service? it’s 45 to get a city Lisc. and proper car insurance etc, it’s about 1,500 bucks . one said get a pizza job or waiter job HELLO ? sorry but I’ve already looked in those areas I’m either too old or whatever? they already hired college students for waiting jobs as we approach summer soon and pizzerias um GAS costs? whereas in the errand services I can build in costs that include covering for the fuel,of course now that I think of it ,this will probably take ALL of the 1,500 as I have to set up a merchant account for easy transactions. any more ideas on how to raise capital as in getting the dough to start the business? 1,500 isn’t alot of money, paying it back by mid summer or sooner! will be achieved my business will take off real quick I’ve looked into this Biz .

I signed up for a free trial for an online company a year ago then I cancelled my membership. My credit card expired since then but I got an email from them today saying they are "having difficulties processing my credit card". When I called they said they are charging me for membership fee (even though I cancelled my membership already). So what will happen next? The credit card number I gave them a year ago is no longer active, and they don’t have any other information about me either (I used fake address and phone number wen I signed up). Will they be able to go after me?

I sell cafes coffee and need to provide them with their account information online. I don’t quite need a full Customer relationship management software package (as I don’t have a need for all the other tools), just a way where my clients can log into their account on my website and get account information. I don’t want to code this myself, just looking for a FREE OR CHEAP solution to create accounts and then have a way for clients to access that information.

How much it would cost for average website with merchant payment setup and PayPal setup.
The site will need flash, and several videos and about 20 pages. About half of them will probably be static pages. I would like 3 price quotes from three different companies. (*Names of competitors and their websites are at the bottom of this page for examples).
- How much will the hosting for the site cost and what else is entailed. The company will need fast servers for all of the live videos being streamed. Please get 3 quotes from 3 companies at different usage amounts.
- Need quotes from 3 companies for simple accounting for this business. (balance sheet, monthly cash flow analysis, monthly sales numbers)
- Need quotes from 3 companies for virtual storage to hold the clients videos.
- What other costs are involved in this type of business?
- What will be an approximate total monthly expenses for this business? Please list them out.
- How many sales will it take to make ,000 monthly in net profit after expenses? (approximate numbers)

I made a purchase at a restaurant two weeks ago. While checking my statement online yesterday, I was horrified to discover that they’d been debiting my VISA check card account every single day since for the same amount. When I called, the manager told me it was a central processing problem with the parent company’s new program, something they were trying to fix. She gave me a number to call, but also told me the woman responsible for corrections is not even going to be in the office today! I am livid! I was initially alerted to the problem when I saw a refund from the restaurant on my statement, and I investigated. So, obviously, the company is already aware that my account has an issue. Problem is that the refund was not for the total amount they’ve overcharged me! The other problem is that this missing money mess has now created other problems for me. Do I have any recourse? If I’d written a bad check, they would’ve charged me a fee for sure! Can I legally charge THEM a fee???
Just to clarify, this was a debit card, not a credit card, so they literally have my money!

I was wondering if it was possible for me to take down a customer’s credit card information over the phone and process the payment myself through Paypal. Do they have a special service for this? Or do I simply add the customer’s order to my cart and checkout as if I were the customer. I’m a little afraid about this method because I don’t want a customer coming back saying they did not authorize me to do this.

Ok, I plan to have customers pay me through Paypal (I know). Since I’m drop shipping I need to have the funds from the buyers available in my bank account to be charge by my vendors in which of course I would hold the difference. But the problem is that it could take up to 3 business days for the transfer to take place in which would add time on to when my customer would receive their product.
Should I
A: Keep a certain amount in my Bank account to be charged automatically but refunded later by funds in paypal..(but may be a nightmare when trying to track high sales)

B: Just wait the 3 days until funds are transfered to bank account and then send purchase to vendor ( which would upset customers who are looking for fast deliveries)

EXTRA notes: for now I have only the option of using paypal or google check out. I don’t want a check or credit card account with paypal .

PayPal Question: I Don’t want my customers to have to sign up for PayPal?
HELP.

I have a Business account with PayPal and we are wanting to start selling online. I created a Buy Now website and when we tested it I notic that there is NO Way for customers to simply enter credit card info WITHOUT having to sign up for PayPal acct.

This is BS, and I want to know what I need to buy / add-on in order to make this more professional.

The issue is that it irritates some potential customers. This leads to missed sales. There is no greater sin in all Creation than missed sales.

What PayPal settings do we use to change this?
What PayPal services must I pa for to remove it?
Speak, oh WISE Yahoolians.

I challenge thee!

Ok, so I went to cancel my merchant account service that I had on my website from this company. They informed me today there’s a 0 cancellation fee. Supposedly when I signed up with them it was for a year (which I was never made aware of), and when I specifically asked the sales representative multiple times if there were any fees or hidden costs I should know about before filling out the paperwork when I first signed up, he reassured me no. The two sales reps I have talked to on the phone have been very rude to me from that company, and they are not budging to my complaints. —————————————-I have filed a complaint in BBB, but if that doesn’t solve the problem my question is this: Is it possible to just take their product off of my website, close out my bank account to which they are billing every month from my debit card, and just open a new one?

Thanks for your time!

I created a website in my Dreamweaver program. I have a host, domain, and the design. What I need help with is putting a shopping cart on the site. I really don’t want to use PayPal. I plan on getting a merchant account with a credit card processing company as well as a business bank account. A credit card processing company I am looking at offers free software (gateway software), and I’m not sure how this works with my site. Is there anybody here that has a website with a payment system on their site that can explain the process? Does the software give me some kind of code that will corrispond with my site. I’m not selling products. I’m selling ad space and a local directory. So when people want to advertise on my site, they’ll pay an ad fee. Kind of like classifieds. I want the customer to see their ad and the fee they’re being charged. I also created an order form and I would like to understand how I can incorporate a shopping cart w/ the form.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

I’m a Kuwaiti citizen working and living in Kuwait. We don’t have taxes in Kuwait.

I’m a programmer in my spare time and I want to sell desktop applications on my website, iPhone applications in the iTunes App Store, and subscriptions to web services.

As a Kuwaiti person, I can’t even get a paypal business account, let alone a business bank account and merchant services.

So my plan is to form an LLC in Delaware to benefit from the merchant services available to US entities.

According to my research and reading:
1) a single owner LLC in Delaware is treated like a sole proprietor
2) a nonresident alien doesn’t have to pay a self-employment tax
3) there are no sales taxes in Delaware

So my question is, what taxes DO I have to pay and under which categories do they fall?

Thank you.
Sorry for being redundant, but I want to stress that my question is:

In the situation that I’ve described, what taxes do I have to pay?

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not illegal but against Visa policy to require ID for acceptance. In other words, you CANNOT deny a sale because I refuse to show ID.

Visa’s official statement:
Some customers write “See ID” or “Ask for ID” in the signature panel, thinking that this is a deterrent against fraud or forgery; that is, if their signature is not on the card, a fraudster will not be able to forge it. In reality, criminals don’t take the time to practice signatures: they use cards as quickly as possible after a theft and prior to the accounts being blocked. They are actually counting on you not to look at the back of the card and compare signatures—they may even have access to counterfeit identification with a signature in their own handwriting. “See ID” or “Ask for ID” is not a valid substitute for a signature. The customer must sign the card in your presence, as stated above.

How many of you knew that?
Visa official statement from merchant agreement:

Although Visa rules do not preclude merchants from asking for cardholder ID, merchants cannot make an ID a condition of acceptance. Therefore, merchants cannot refuse to complete a purchase transaction because a cardholder refuses to provide ID. Visa believes merchants should not ask for ID as part of their regular card acceptance procedures. Laws in several states also make it illegal for merchants to write a cardholder’s personal information, such as an address or phone number, on a sales receipt.
Banja, it’s not for my protection. How is it protecting me when I give a random stranger access to all of my personal information?
