Today at work our credit card machine stopped printing so we took a card, made a copy and wrote out a reciept. The card holder got completely bent out of shape and demanded the copy of his card back saying copying it is illegal. I thought it’d be OK because even a business owner’s reciept will have the card # on it. Does anyone know if it’s illegal to make a copy of a credit card?

I have been saving up money so that I could pay off a charge card that I racked up a few years ago. I maxed it out in trying to pay off a lawyer to help my husband fight for custody and visitation of his daughter. (And a crappy lawyer at that!!!)
I have saved up a good amount of money to where I can call and ask to settle the account, but I want to do this properly. And not screw myself more than I already have.
What is the process in doing so? What is something I should keep in mind or know before making that phone call? How should I make the payment: personal check, money order, bank check?
What letters should I have mailed to me BEFORE payment is sent? I just want to cover my butt.
Any advice is appreciated!
Well I thought you were supposed to try and resolve these things yourself because we’re capable. I don’t want to pay someone else to do it for me when I could make a few calls myself.
I’ve heard of lots of “debt resolution” situations where people get scammed. But I’m not saying a complete NO to the idea. I just want to be smart about it!

Hey yahoo people,
I am currently in the process of setting up a resellers business in California. In Cali, we need a resellers permit and here is where the confusion begins. I need a Reseller’s Permit to begin selling but I need a Merchant Bank Account to receive payments. When I called a organization, they asked me for my Reseller ID, which is the original thing I tried to obtain. Then the representative said I could go to any Reseller and obtain the merchant bank account. So now I need help as many other starting businessmen need in this utter chaos of confusion.
Now I decided to get a Merchant Bank Account first. Where do I get one for an online business that later on down the road will have a retail location?
Once I do get one I will obtain a Reseller’s Permit, but now that leaves me with another question, do I need a Credit Card Processing Terminal for online businesses or will my Merchant Bank take care of it?
PLEASE help : D!!!
Warm Regards,
Jason H.

i just applied for my frist credit card at citigroup recently, & i just got a call from a private number. the woman on the phone told me that she was processing my application & she repeated which card I was applying for & everything. It sounded totally legit, so I didn’t think about it when she asked my to verify my ssn. is this common protocol for cc companies? i wouldn’t know, since this is my first card.
Nothing seemed fishy about it, but should I be concerned?
Thanks for your help!
I don’t have any credit yet, so I can’t watch what I don’t have yet…
I actually called citi & they were not only able to verify that they called, but also the date & time. I’m pretty sure the reason for calling was that it was my first card, I don’t have any other account with them, & I applied online. Thanks for all of you guys’ help!

I always see these credit card machines on the gas pump but I’ve never used one before because I don’t want to screw it up. One thing I’ve wondered is do you put the card in before or after you pump the gas and does it ask you any questions on the display screen? Anyway I imagine it is pretty easy to do.

I *KNOW* that I can only use 1 shopsafe number with 1 merchant, but my question is…
If I do not have a paypal account, but purchase things in ebay (and they automatically have me using paypal), can I purchase multiple items from different "stores" using the same shopsafe number from my Bank of America VISA card? (paypal being the 1 "merchant")
If it all goes through paypal by default, wouldn’t paypal be considered 1 merchant even though there are multiple "stores" I am buying from in seperate purchases on seperate days?
all of this from just-only 1 shopsafe number!

I know there have to be some folks out there who can help me.
Jeez, I have looked for two days (literally) for a reasonable commerce hosting website that offers a shopping cart where your buyers can check out without me having to sign up for a very expensive merchant account. I hate Paypal, too (they’re crooks). I’ve read some really bad reviews about Yahoo’s services so I’m on the fence about them, and they’re not cheap either. Any advice on hosting websites that are reliable and offer checkout without asking for your first-born? Thanks in advance!

i recently made a payment over the phone towards my car loan. upon looking at my credit card statement online i notice the charge was higher than the monthy due. the lady who took my credit card number did not tell me there would be a 15.00 processing fee to use my card. i normally pay online thru my bank but failed to do so in time this month so to avoid late fees i did it on the phone. well i avoided the late fees but got the processing fee instead. can they legally charge me a processing fee without first informing me? i do not see anything in the contract about it.

I currently have a Yahoo! Merchant Account. I want to know how hard it is to create a professional looking website using dreamweaver CS3. I’ve downloaded the trial, and so far I can make a cheap "mickey mouse" looking website. I am in the Ecommerce business and it is VERY important to have a professional looking website. I don’t have the money to pay a professional web designer, so I want to know if Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 would be a good investment. I have had some education in C++ and in HTML. Also I have heard that you need Adobe Flash CS3 or Adobe Photoshop to create professional looking web banners and interactive elements, is this true? Is there anything else that is cheaper? Please only honest answers. Thank you.
